Smallville really started something in DC Media. At first I was annoyed by how Smallville's Lana looked, traditionally she was always a redhead. I came to enjoy how it broke the old traditions in generally postive ways, its modernized Green Arrow, a more believable Cyborg, the face paint mask evolution of Black Canary, exploring the idea that Zod wasn't always the monster we know him as, you name it.
Man of Steel continued that progressive reimagining, I enjoyed seeing Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, the introduction of Jenny Olsen, and my most favorite change ever, they finally got rid of the underwear outside the pants on the Superman costume for live action. Overall the progressive concepts introduced in Smallville and continued in Man of Steel I have found generally positive.
